I teach in the Department of Political Science and the Department of Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Alberta. I am also an Individualized Study Tutor in the Department of Women's and Gender Studies at Athabasca University.
At the University of Alberta, I teach introductory surveys and advanced seminars in Canadian politics, gender and politics, contemporary political theory, gender and science, and body politics.
My approach to teaching emphasizes inclusion, accessibility, compassion, and respect for students. One of my goals is to create and encourage learning environments that welcome and affirm students' diverse lived experiences and ways of knowing. I draw on bell hooks’ and Paulo Freire’s theories of critical pedagogy and democratic education to create challenging, generative, and engaging learning communities where students grapple with diverse political and social issues.
